Y2L Scholarship Programs
About
For more than 30 years, our foundation has awarded over $2 million in scholarships to deserving students in Kern County to continue their education at their respective institutions of higher education. In addition, we provide guidance and support services to ensure that the scholars make a successful transition to college and excel once they are there.
Scholarship Eligibility Requirements:
College Dream Fund Scholarship
- Must be a 2025 graduating high school senior, current college student, or graduate student continuing their enrollment in college for the 2025-2026 academic year
- Must be working on, or planning to work on, an undergraduate or graduate degree
- Must be a first-generation college student
- Must demonstrate financial need
- Must have a minimum GPA of 2.5
- Be a DREAMer or AB540 student
- This scholarship is renewable.
Future Leaders Scholarship
- Must be a 2025 graduating high school senior or current college student continuing their enrollment in college for the 2025-2026 academic year
- Must be working on, or planning to work on, an undergraduate degree
- Must be a first-generation college student
- Must demonstrate financial need
- Must have a minimum GPA of 2.5
- Be a U.S. Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident
- This scholarship is renewable.
Jake Cavazos Memorial Fund Scholarship
- Must be a 2025 graduating high school senior or current college student continuing their enrollment in college for the 2025-2026 academic year
- Must be working on, or planning to work on, an undergraduate degree or career technical certification leading to employment
- Must be an Arvin High School senior or graduate
- Must be a first-generation college student
- Must demonstrate financial need
- Must have a minimum GPA of 2.5
- Be a DREAMer or AB540 student
- This scholarship is non-renewable.
Ivan Melendez Memorial Fund Scholarship
- Must be a 2025 current college student or graduating high school senior continuing their enrollment in college for the 2025-2026 academic year
- Must be working on, or planning to work on, an undergraduate degree at California State University, Bakersfield (CSUB)
- Enrolled in a minimum of 12 semester units
- Must be a member of a recognized CSUB club/organization
- Must be a first-generation college student
- Must demonstrate financial need
- Must have a minimum GPA of 2.7
- Be a U.S. Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, DREAMer, or AB540 student
- This scholarship is non-renewable.
Porfirio and Angelita Morales Memorial Fund Scholarship
- Must be a 2025 graduating, high school senior or current college student continuing their enrollment in college for the 2025 - 2026 academic year
- Must be working on, or planning to work on, an undergraduate degree
- Must be an Arvin High School graduate
- Must be a first-generation college student
- Must demonstrate financial need
- Must have a minimum GPA of 2.5
- Be a U.S. Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, DREAMer, or AB540 student
- This scholarship is non-renewable
Victor Santiago Memorial Fund Scholarship
- Must be a 2025 current college student or graduating, high school senior continuing their enrollment in college for the 2025 - 2026 academic year
- Must be working on, or planning to work on, an undergraduate degree at CSUB
- Enrolled in a minimum of 12 semester units
- Must be a member of a recognized CSUB club/organization
- Must be a first-generation college student

- Must be a 2025 graduating, high school senior
- Must be planning to work on an undergraduate degree at CSUB
- Must be a first-generation college student
- Must demonstrate financial need
- Must have a minimum GPA of 2.5
- Be a U.S. Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, DREAMer, or AB540 student
- This scholarship is non-renewable.
Raices of Kern County Scholarship
- Must be a graduating college student with a bachelor's degree or graduate student continuing their enrollment at CSUB for the 2025-2026 academic year
- Must be working on, or planning to work on, a graduate degree
- Must be a first-generation college student
- Must demonstrate financial need
- Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0
- Be a U.S. Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, DREAMer, or AB540 student
- This scholarship is non-renewable.
Zachary Blackhurst Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is only open to Highland High School Seniors!
- Must be a 2025 graduating, Highland High School senior
- Must plan to work on an undergraduate degree during the 2025 - 2026 academic year
- Must be a varsity wrestler- male or female
- Must have a minimum GPA of 2.5
- Be a U.S. Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, DREAMer, or AB540 student

- Must be able to demonstrate achievements in academic and/or extracurricular education
- Must demonstrate financial need
- Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0
- Be a U.S. Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, DREAMer, or AB540 student

How do I apply?List Item 1
Complete the application on the link and complete it by April 18, 2025. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Do I have to be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident to apply for a scholarship?List Item 2
No, in fact, the College Dream Fund Scholarship is only open for undocumented high school seniors. If funding allows, current undocumented college students will also be considered.

When will I know if I am selected to receive an award?
Notification dates will vary. Most notifications will be announced during the month of May . Appropriate email and/or letter notifications will also be delivered.

Will I be notified if I do not receive an award?
Yes. All notifications are sent via email once the selection process has been completed to the address applicants applied with.

If I am selected for a scholarship, when should I expect my disbursement?
Scholarship awards are contingent upon proof of full-time enrollment and financial aid awards letter for the entire academic year.
Awards are disbursed directly to the awardees educational institution 4 - 6 weeks after you submit proof of enrollment. Please contact us at scholarship@y2lef.org with any additional questions.
